Sports Ambassador Breakfast
Sport Marlborough hosts an annual breakfast for local secondary school students recognised by their schools for achieving a high level of sporting performance or outstanding leadership skills in any area of the schools activities.
Students attend from Marlborough Boys College, Marlborough Girls College, Queen Charlotte College, Rai Valley Area School and Kaikoura High School.
A well known New Zealand elite athlete is invited to speak to the assembled groups about their experiences. In previous years guest speakers have included:
| • | Steve Gurney | (multisport) |
| • | Cory Hutchings | (surf lifesaver) |
| • | Cindy Mosey | (kitesurfing) |
Following the breakfast selected students stay to take part in the Sports Ambassador Programme.
Sports Ambassador Programme
This programme was developed in 1997 by Sport & Recreation New Zealand (SPARC). The programme has two objectives:
| • | To help improve the capabilities of young people throughout their sporting performance. |
| • | Help young people achieve their goals in the sporting arena through the motivation and inspiration of elite athletes. |
SPARC's Sports Ambassadors have all achieved to a high level in the international sporting arena, and are well known to most New Zealanders. They're also happy to give their time to help our young people achieve their sporting goals.
During the programme the Sports Ambassador covers a variety of topics relating their own experience and skills developed which have assisted them in reaching their sporting pinnacle:
| • | Dreams and visualisation |
| • | Goals and goal setting |
| • | Self motivational skills |
| • | Roadblocks and how to overcome them |
| • | Discussion and questioning |
